The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg recently celebrated the grand opening of their new gym and dedicated the gym floor to the Daly Family. The 5,000 square foot gym will enhance the overall club experience by providing room for basketball, volleyball as well as special events. The new gym allows the organization to reach more young people through increased recreational opportunities.
Two years ago, the club had the opportunity to purchase the building next to its existing facility. Following the acquisition, a fund raising drive was initiated. Jim and Lynn Daly, avid supporters of the Lynchburg club since its inception, agreed to be the primary sponsors with naming rights for the floor of the basketball court. Jim and Lynn chose to name the floor after the ‘Daly Family.’ The Daly family has a long legacy of involvement with the BGCA, starting in Danville, VA with the support of Phil and Fran Daly and continues with support from Pat and Cathy Daly and Niles and Carol Daly. Jim Daly, one of the original founding board members for the Lynchburg BGCA organization in 2005, also started an endowment fund to ensure that the club’s role in the community would continue on for years to come.”
The club, which serves children ages 6 to 18 through a variety of after-school and summer programs, emphasize mentoring, leadership, and recreation. The club opened in 2005 in a former industrial property on Madison Street. Since its inception, the Lynchburg Boys and Girls Club has grown from serving 60 kids a day to now close to 200 kids a day. It is the “Positive Place for Kids!”
